加拿大極光23（A23）內含最少23種礦物，包括榍石(Titanite)、黃磷鐵礦(Cacoxenite)、纖鐵礦(Lepidocrosite)、斜矽鋁銅礦(Ajoite)、赤鐵礦(Hematite)、磁鐵礦(Magnetite)、黃鐵礦(Pyrite)、針鐵礦(Goethite)、軟錳礦(Pyrolusite)、金(Gold)、銀(Silver)、鉑金(Platinum)、鎳(Nickel)、銅(Copper)、鐵(Iron)、褐鐵礦(Limonite)、閃鋅礦(Sphalerite)、藍銅礦(Covellite)、黃銅礦(Chalcopyrite)、Gialite(尚無中文名稱）、綠簾石(Epidote)、斑銅礦(Bornite)及金紅石(Rutile)，所以晶體通常部份呈半透明至不透明。部份極光23的晶尖被紅色的赤鐵礦覆蓋(稱為：紅頭)，加拿大產的「紅頭極光」數量稀少而珍貴。
